Hi I am new to options trading and need a bit of advice to help me out.. I am looking at a put price of.25 and but 100 contracts at $25, when the option gets to the strike period, do I have to buy the shares at that price?, or do I just have to pay the commission and $25 – the 100 contracts at .25.

Let's say this options is based on a company that trades at $10, after getting the 100 contracts are these any other costs I need to shell out for? Basically put, can I just pay the commission, and if the option doesn't work is that it.

Thanks.

I'm currently at college and my hobby is to play the stock market online. I just use the simulation programs at the moment, so in other words I don't trade with real money. However, in a few years I'd like to be able to build up enough capital to do it for real.

Frank the American Capitalist asked:

Real talk, I'm independent, I reside with the right currently because they understand free market trade.

But the thing is the left keeps witch hunting CEO's.

If you look up Hillary Clinton's net worth, you'll notice she has private insurance she owns stock, she's a multi-millionaire, the same as a CEO.

http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/moneymag/0712/gallery.candidates.moneymag/index.html

The difference is Hillary Clinton hires a lot less people and makes her money on law suits. CEO's provide jobs, create a product/service, and are not a parasite by suing others.

I just find it hilarious people like her "fight" for the common person to have government ran health insurance, that's what the public option is, don't even argue it. Yet she has her own plan, why not practice what you preech, she should stop being wealthy, stop having private health care, she needs to be middle class, because she relates to them. Irony never made me laugh so hard.

Really though democrats, these movements are socialist, will make you government dependent, Will increase taxes, means you have less money and can afford less freedom. Freedom to buy things you want and do things you do. So once you have your pay check butchered to nothing, you will be living on a system you're taxed into with no options, you can't avoid going to the DMV for a drivers license, you have to go there, there is no other choice.

I am telling you the reality of your choice. I hope you for the sake of (Religious Figure Here), understand the taxation is going to be like 1776, when our fore fathers had to fight a king. I hope you listen and not resort to opinions. This is history going to repeat it's self.
truth seeker: What is greed? Is it greedy for you to force the rich to pay for the poor?
What about dictatorships where people in Cuba get free health care, but those people never even seen a play station 3. A basic commodity you have and take for granted. I think your view is distorted. You need to understand when you put all the eggs in one basket and trust the government, if they fail you lose. If a business fails only an amount of people lose, not the entire American Nation.
James: I agree 100%, just the thing is that China is starting to lose it's communistic entity, it's a republic now and I hope China can lead by example if America fails. If China privatizes health care and proves to the world the private sector is the most productive, I will laugh. I hope the socialists fail, their are many socialist parties in America, I read their blogs it is scary. They appraise Michael Moore and Obama. People need to wake up like you said. I am very pissed America is going to fall to socialism and people are being tricked into this system. I plan to make a good movement in the near future to protect this system. I think like the fore fathers, I don't pick a side. Because 240 years ago I'd be democrat since the businesses man at the time was a farmer. I don't condone slavery, but the farming industry was the only thing.

You're a very intelligent person, most people don't know what the CRA is and how it relates to the banks going bankrupt.
Lauryn L: I am Independent, but I reside with Republicans because they are more in tune with what the fore fathers wanted, This is a social injustice, that will damage everyone financially. The socialist movement is happening, I can see it every where, 50 years ago if this tried to pass after we beat the USSR, I guarantee tar and feathering would happen. Pop Culture is killing America, everyone picks what sounds good, not what history showed us what is good. I feel bad for the majority of the Ignorant people who are suckered into this scam.

Im a 21 college student and have decided to take a small amount of risk in the market, perhaps trading options. I have an account with the online broker Scottrade that has a value > 25000. I turned in the paperwork for trading options. So if I were to invest a small amount of my portfolio into a call option for (X) tomorrow morning, what steps do i need to take (besides filling out the order form i know how to do that)? Do I have to own shares in (X)? Also it's a $1.25 per contract, so does that mean for each single option I buy it cost $1.25? I just started a course in investments and will learn more about options later this semester, I just want a head start and possibly make some money. Thank You.
